Who is SAINT PATRICK? I dont Know much about what religion he preached and what he was about?
i recently recieved a necklace from my boyrfiend which belonged to his Grandmother. It say "Saint patrick Pray for us" Can anyone tell me about the meaning of the necklace and help me understand some of the back ground to Saint patrick.
Answer: Saint patrick is the patron saint of ireland, although he was originally from britain. there is a legend about him driving the snakes out of ireland which is a complete fabrication. wen he was 14 he was captured by irish raiders and worked as a slave for 6 years in ireland. after he had entered the church he returned to ireland as a bishop in the north and west of the island. he then became the patron saint of ireland although there is much contreversy regardin the time period in which he reigned. wikipedia for more info.
lol edit, ps. he introduced christianity to a predominantly pagan ireland
ps ur neckalce is simply a referance from a prayer to st patrick, an old irish catholic prayer.

What did SAINT PATRICK do to become a Saint?
I was doing a report on Saint patrick and i was wondering why he was a famous Saint? What did he do? What did he do to help Ireland/Irish people? If you have the answer please comment or do something.
Thank you
Answer: Patrick was a native of the British isle / enslaved to an Irish pirate / a convert to Christianity / a missionary then eventually an apostle Bishop. He did leave two writings he himself penned a "Confession" and "Letter to Coroticus" and that autobiographical poetic confession is both a thanksgiving to God and a justification of his mission to the Irish citizenry. . .
This hardy missionary was a man of the Bible as he read it in Latin and he wrote in his surviving Epistle: "If I have any worth, it is to live my life for God so as to teach these peoples"

TV SPORTS; Personal Profiles Help Counter Excess of Pregame Show
There were moments -- well, some were much longer than moments -- on Sunday when NBCs Super Bowl pregame show felt as if it were headed into a quality abyss. It is an abyss that other networks have stepped into because of the nature of these bloated, moneymaking entities. Without enough concrete material -- or enough to supposedly please both - Richard Sandomir TV Sports column contends that most Super Bowl pre-game shows are bloated, moneymaking entities with little substantial content; notes that NBCs programming was at least well-paced and relatively football-oriented. What are the proper ways in which a Jew can celebrate SAINT PATRICKs Day?
I have already purchased my green Yarmulke and am planning to serve green bagels for the holiday How else may a Jew celebrate St. Patricks Day?
I just found this. Did anyone ever know the Jews introduced Corned Beef to the Irish?
Corned Beef and Cabbage
Corned beef and cabbage is the traditional meal enjoyed by many on St. Patricks Day, but only half of it is truly Irish. Cabbage has long been a staple of the Irish diet, but it was traditionally served with Irish bacon, not corned beef. The corned beef was substituted for bacon by Irish immigrants to the Americas around the turn of the century who could not afford the real thing. They learned about the cheaper alternative from their Jewish neighbors.

Why Do You Have To Wear The Color Green On SAINT PATRICKs Day?
My mom told my dad something and mentioned Saint patricks Day, and it got me thinking. I was wondering if there was like a back story, you know like Valentines Day?
Answer: Saint patrick is most known for driving the snakes from Ireland. It is true there are no snakes in Ireland, but there probably never have been - the island was separated from the rest of the continent at the end of the Ice Age. As in many old pagan religions, serpent symbols were common and often worshipped. Driving the snakes from Ireland was probably symbolic of putting an end to that pagan practice. While not the first to bring christianity to Ireland, it is Patrick who is said to have encountered the Druids at Tara and abolished their pagan rites. The story holds that he converted the warrior chiefs and princes, baptizing them and thousands of their subjects in the "Holy Wells" that still bear this name.

What are the true symbols of SAINT PATRICK and what does each one represent?
So Im getting a tattoo for my 20th birthday this coming June, and I wanted to have the symbol or symbols of Saint patrick to be part of it. I read on Wikipedia that they were as follows: cross, harp, serpent, baptismal font, demons, shamrock. But I do not believe everything I read on Wikipedia. Can someone please tell what the true symbols are? Thanks.
Answer: You are correct to be careful of anything on wiki because anyone can edit it. But it is better than most of the opinions here at QA.
In this case, the "atributes" do seem accurate. The cross, harp, serpent, baptismal font, demons, shamrock are all parts of St Pats iconography

How extensively is SAINT PATRICKs Day celebrated where you live?
I live in Connecticut and it is huge here. As kids we celebrated at school by wearing green and the teachers would always have a tiny party for us. As an adult, nearly every restaurant has corned beef and cabbage, and now that people are more educated about it most restaurants will have several authentic Irish dishes. Most bars will have Irish singers for the week(s) leading up to St Patricks Day.
I realize that it is because we have a large Irish descent population, but how about other parts of the country?
Answer: It used to be a protest march many years back.
Now it's just an excuse to sell Guinness.

Why did SAINT PATRICK want to drive all of the snakes out of Ireland? And how?
Saint patricks day is based on that he drove the snakes away.
Answer: The story about the snakes is just a monor legend.
All Christians can celebrate the life of this wonderful saint who said "Yes!" to God.
Saint patrick was born about 385 in Scotland. His parents, Calpurnius and Conchessa, were Catholic Romans living in Britain in charge of the colonies. This might even make Saint patrick an Italian.
At the age of fourteen, raiders captured Patrick and took him as a slave to Ireland, a land of Druids and pagans. Patrick learned the Irish language and customs.
While a slave, Patrick's faith in God grew and he wrote
"The love of God and his fear grew in me more and more, as did the faith, and my soul was raised, so that, in a single day, I have said as many as a hundred prayers and in the night, nearly the same." "I prayed in the woods and on the mountain, even before dawn. I felt no hurt from the snow or ice or rain."
When Patrick was twenty, he had a dream in which God told him to leave Ireland by going to the coast. He escaped and found a boat that took him back to Britain and his family.
Later Patrick dreamed that Irish were calling, "We beg you, holy youth, to come and walk among us once more."
Patrick studied, became a priest, and, later, a bishop. In 433, he went to take the Gospel to Ireland.
Patrick preached the Gospel throughout Ireland, converted thousands, and began building churches.
Patrick is famous for using the shamrock (a three-leaf clover) to explain the Trinity.
Patrick preached for 40 years and died on March 17, 461 at Saul, where he had built the first church.
Patrick's feast day is March 17 and he is the patron saint of Ireland.

Why is the cross of SAINT PATRICK broken in the Union Jack?
Maybe someone from Ireland would know? Is it a deliberate disrespect of Ireland? For example, they could have put it in the middle of the cross of Saint Andrew, so it would look like the center was covering its center. But the way they put its legs on opposite sides of the cross of Saint Andrew makes it look deliberately broken.

My book has only a short paragraph of him and only one sentence within that paragraph tells me that he studied in Gual and in 432 was Ordained bishop. HOWEVER, on the internet i found a little more. It says he studied under St. Germanus and was ordained by him also, I also found he was ordained by Pope Celestine and was sent back to Ireland to take the place of Pallidus by Pope Celestine.
