How to prepare enough CREPES for a party of 10?
Hi!
Were about to have a crepe party for 10 at my home. Is there a way to prepare Crepes ahead of time so that I wont need to cook them while the guests are here? I have a small kitchen and would probably be able to make 2 at a time.
Perhaps, layering them in between moist paper towels?
Any thoughts, thanks!
Answer: I've heard of laying them on moist paper towels but that's not necessary. I usually cook about 30 or 40 at a time for my family. I put them in a large zip lock back in the fridge. No problems. They don't dry out and they don't stick together.
Bon apetite.

Im thinking about starting selling CREPES to grade school kids in the Philippines. Any suggestions?
Im thinking about starting crepe business to grade schools in my provincial town in the Philippines. If using butter and fresh milk will make my ingredients to cost high. What alternatives can I substitute to come to a sellable price but wont sacrifice the taste and quality of my Crepes?
Answer: Palatschinken, Blintz, Crumpet, Crepes all are made of the same Ingredients and I'm sorry to say the by "short-cutting" would have a big impact on the quality. Substituting powdered eggs and milk just wouldn't be right. Myself, if I'm going to sell something that I made personally it better be the best I can do, no compromising.

Whats the difference between CREPES and pancakes?
can you modify a pancake recipe to become Crepes?
By adding more egg and milk ?
Answer: All the other have made there point but the biggest difference is Crepes have not leavening, pancake have baking powder to make them fluffy hence the name cakes, crepe are thinner made with essentially the same ingredients, more butter than pancakes and either milk or cream, pancake have more flour, the leavening, more eggs and tend to be sweeter, in France as the once girl said they have many Crepes and the eat them with fruit or savoury with meats, seafood, even buckwheat Crepes with other toppings and fillings.

How do you make good CREPES?
Im a new cooker and want to get it right. I have had Crepes with Nutella and strawberries and bananas and want to make some for my boyfriend who has never had them.
Answer: I make Crepes all the time, they are so easy. You can make them and just serve as you said, with Nutella or fruit, or you can roll them up with a filling of Ricotta, Shredded Mozarrella, Parsley and egg, then lay in a pan and cover with tomato sauce. Instant Manicotti. I never buy the store bought shells anymore. The tip for good Crepes, is to make sure you have a good non stick pan. 6-8" is best. Use a non stick cooking spray, like pam. Below is my basic crepe recipe:
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 eggs
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup water
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons butter, melted
In a large bowl whish together flour and eggs, gradually add in milk and water. Then add salt and butter. whisk to thoroughly incorporated and smooth. I let my batter sit in fridge for 15-30 minutes, but you don't have to.
Heat your pan over stove and then spray lightly with non stick spray. take a ladle (you want about 1/4 cup per crepe) and pour batter into pan. you want to pick the pan up and twirl it, so that the mixture reaches the edge of the pan and covers the bottom evenly. If the crepe is too thick, add less the next time. If it's too thin, add more. Cook over heat (you want to use a medium heat) until the crepe appears "dry" you don't want it wet looking. once it's dry you just flip it over. I just take my finger and push the crepe up the side, till i can grap it and quickly flip it over. or use a spatula. once you flip over, you only want to cook it for another 20 seconds or so. I lay a piece of waxpaper on my counter top and lay them on that, till there all cooked.
Crepes can be stored in freezer, between sheets of waxed paper in a ziploc freezer bag.
Good luck!

CREPES????
Does anyone have any suggestions about frying Crepes? I just want to know because I am frying Crepes in a few days and I could use some advice as to how to get them thin but not break up. Any advice would help. Thanks!
Answer: To prepare :
Turn the batter. Heat a non-stick pan, put a light knod of butter in
(swirl the pan to distribute the melting butter ; the pan must be hot
enough to hear the butter fry but not too hot for the butter must not
get brown !), pour a small laddle of batter on the pan while swirling it
to distribute the batter evenly (this is the important trick !).
Don't forget Crepes must be very thin ! Cook until golden brown, turn
the crepe upside down and cook the other side the same way.
Put it in a large plate, stuff it and fold it into 4, or roll it.
Do that again for each crepe.

What other fruits can you eat with Crepes?
Answer: You can eat almost any type of fruit on Crepes. Blueberries, raspberries, pineapple, blackberries, cranberries, or even coconut. The best Crepes I ever had were filled with nutella, a type of butter like peanut butter made from hazelnuts that looks alot like chocolate. If your bored with the same old Crepes I suggest expirementing with fillings as well. You can also try any type of nuts on your Crepes, almonds are very good in my opinion. You might try looking at some crepe recipes online and find some that sound good to you. There is really no limit to what you can do with a good ol' crepe!

What are CREPES supposed to look when you take them off the skillet?
Whenever i make Crepes im afaid i take them off to eary and if i leave them on they look burnt. What are the supposed to look like?
Answer: Crepes should cook on the first side until just firm, 35 to 40 seconds. Once flipped, it should sit in the pan another 10 seconds. Crepes don't take any time at all to cook and should be a very pale golden. If you like a bit more color that is fine, but they start to get tough if cooked too long. They should be nice and tender but pliable without splitting.

Whats the difference between Japanese CREPES and CREPES from other places ?
I dont know where Crepes started but it seems like its western. Is Crepes just popular to be seen everywhere in Japanese like vending machines ? Or is it some new type of crepe that has a new Japanese style ? I mean like Japanese curry. Indian curry and Japanese curry is differrent although its from India.
Answer: Japanese Crepes are not sold in vending machines (at least not that I have seen). They are made and sold at booths in any public area (including the street). Typically, they are larger than the traditional French Crepes (where they came from) and the batter is also typically lighter, which makes for a softer crepe. When completed, they are rolled into a cone and eaten like that. However, the most important is the fact that they offer more fillings. For example, i've had one with blueberry cheesecake and ice cream :D

Where in the grocery store can you usually find prepared CREPES?
I dont mean with the filling and everything already. Im making the filling and the recipe says to just buy the Crepes premade but Im not sure where to look for them.
Answer: Sometimes you can find them in the frozen section near icecream and waffles and that sort of stuff. Also check the bakery/deli section.
Or if you have time try making your own! They are easy, and can be made ahead of time for use later.

1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup water
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons butter, melted
DIRECTIONS
In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour and the eggs. Gradually add in the milk and water, stirring to combine. Add the salt and butter; beat until smooth.
Heat a lightly oiled griddle or frying pan over medium high heat. Pour or scoop the batter onto the griddle, using approximately 1/4 cup for each crepe. Tilt the pan with a circular motion so that the batter coats the surface evenly.
Cook the crepe for about 2 minutes, until the bottom is light brown. Loosen with a spatula, turn and cook the other side. Serve hot.

What is a good recipe for actuall sweet CREPES?
Ive tried a few recipes to make Crepes, but none of them come out sweet. They usually just come out bland. So does anyone have a recipe for actual sweet Crepes? Like they serve at Holders Country Inn, or something like that? Thank you.
Answer: BASIC Crepes
1 1/2 c. all purpose flour
1 tsp. sugar
1/8 tsp. salt
3 eggs, room temperature
1 1/2 c. milk
2 tbsp. butter
Butter for cooking
Sift flour, sugar, and salt together into a bowl. Add eggs and mix together thoroughly with a whisk - mixture will form a thick paste. Add milk gradually and slowly, beating thoroughly until you have air bubbles. Add melted and cooled butter. Add flavoring now if one is desired (possibly 1 teaspoon grated lemon peel - 1 teaspoon dried herbs). Let batter stand for at least 1 hour until the air bubbles disappear. Makes about 16 Crepes.
FLAVORING FOR DESERT Crepes:
1 teaspoon vanilla and 1 extra tablespoon sugar or 1 teaspoon grated lemon rind and 1 extra tablespoons sugar.

What is the difference between CREPES and pancakes?
Because apparently I have been making Crepes all along?
Ohhh, I see! Pancakes are in between Crepes and crumpets?
Answer: I think crumpets are similar to what we call biscuits.
the difference in pancakes and Crepes is the ammount of liquid in the batter. For Crepes the batter is very very thin so the Crepes are thin and don't rise much at all.
Pancakes batter is thin, but not as thin as for Crepes. They rise a lot more due to more baking powder in the batter.
Waffles are similar to pancakes but are baked in a griddle on both sides at the same time.
